Take Form
the moon unbuttons the skies
silver spills into my eyes
your weight holds me to the ground
the paths arrange themselves around
each one ends where you are
I am not a keeper of time
it puddles, useless as rhyme
the minutes soften and they run
wax rivers melted from the sun
yet beneath the moon, they're still
and words are cumbersome things
dead moths with star-dusted wings
I pin them down to the page
small relics laid out with age
too small to hold you
so I paint you into the air
suspended in the stillness there
your strong arms slow the spinning world
restless legs beneath you curled
my torch and quiver at your side
your jaw begs my lips to bite
your eyes swallow up the light
I reach to trace every line
countenance held steady in mine
the kaleidoscope of your form
then on my brow I've painted thee
a second face that none can see
so I can meet you in the mirror
your voice the only thing I hear
your name hidden on my tongue
too soon, too late, still, I stand
with language asleep in my hand
though Iām hidden from your view
my everything is turned toward you.
Love, let your heart be light.
