IV

Gonna make my way
down to Mexico,
with a friend I’d like
to really get to know.

Got a long, long way to go

Finally try the caviar,
and share that book I read.
He’ll smile in that easy way
that goes straight to my head.

We’ll slip into the water,
pass a bottle of good wine.
He’ll take me the way he does
in all those dreams of mine.

I’ll watch the way his mouth moves,
I won’t let go of his hand.
Feel his chest rise and fall,
a warm moment made of sand.

But we’re up here in the cold.
Should I hold onto this hope?
Not too close to burn me,
just close enough to cope.

Got a long, long way to go

But we’ll laugh by a fire,
he’ll get me so high.
We’ll crawl into our two tents
underneath the same sky.

Him in hers, me in mine,
and I might feel content
with the way our tangled lives
have unraveled as we went.

Got a long, long way to go
Long, long way to go
Long, long way to go
Long, long way to go
