Best Friend Vows

The moment I first laid eyes on you, something in me awakened for which I did not yet have words. I only knew that my heart had turned toward you in a way it hadn’t moved before.

I had never wanted anyone. Never imagined I would ever need anyone. I had other plans for my life, but we know what God does when we make our plans.

And what a gift the path laid before us has been.

You are my joy, my ease, and one of God’s kindest blessings in my life. You have brought warmth and laughter to heavy days, and peace where there was once unrest. You have been my steady hand, my shelter, and my protector. Through seasons of hardship, pain, uncertainty, and struggle, you have remained my rock, my north star, constant, guiding, and sure.

I love your heart, your quiet selflessness, your determination, your humor, and those razor-sharp edges that make me love you deeply, and more deeply still.

When I feel lost or give in to fear, you remain steadfast. Though at times I don’t know the way, my heart has always been faithful to you, and it always will be. Whatever road we must take, whether side by side or carried apart for a time, my love for you remains true.

With only God as my witness, I promise to love you. I promise to keep learning how to love you as we grow, as we change, and as life asks new things of us. I promise to keep choosing kindness in small things, patience in hard moments, and tenderness in the ordinary days even when we are apart.
